Añadir al carritopaperback. Condición: Near Fine. PAPERBACK, cover price $13.00, near fine, attractive copy. BUT with a previous owner's Christmas gift inscription on front endpaper. LAMPEDUSA, GIUSEPPE DI. The Leopard. Translated from the Italian by Archibald Colquhoun. New York, N.Y: Pantheon, 1991, later printing, 319pp., . The novel is a chronicle of fifty years of the Risorgimento, the Italian Unification's effect on Sicily, dating from Garibaldi's landing on the island in 1860 to the final decline of a once-opulent Sicilian family. The book represents a variation on the historical novel, in that it permits the present to intrude into the past--the omniscient narrator hints at what will happen after the story is finished. The protagonist is Don Fabrizio Corbera, Prince of Salina. He accepts that his nephew, Tancredi, joins the rebels, but sees the aristocracy displaced by the middle class. After the prince's deathbed scene, in which he sums up the small number of joyful hours as against his seventy years of boredom, the view deepens into psychological narrative. However, the story does not end in his death, but the final chapter, set in 1910, shows the decline of the family. 9780679731214 ISBN 0679731210 10.60.

Octavo (8 1/2" x 6 1/2") bound in original publisher's green cloth with black and gilt lettering to spine in original publisher's jacket. First edition. In this work J P Zollinger aims, "in a scientifically justifiable way, to integrate what is known regarding the world of political civilization into the general framework of modern evolutionary science, to break down the ancient superstition that the world of man, stands outside the general world order, or that he lives in a hermetically sealed domain within nature." The focal point of Zollinger's investigation is evolutionary theory interpreted in the light of Bohr's complementary principle, which Zollinger sees as the most fundamental principle of natural development and thus of social development a well. Condition: Corners bumped. Jacket corners rubbed, spine sunned else a very good to fine in a near fine jacket.

"The incredible George Burns celebrates his one hundredth birthday with a priceless gift to his fans - a collection of the stories that have made him one of America's national treasures." "George Burns's career has spanned the history of modern show business: he has starred in big-time vaudeville; in radio, television, the movies, and the recording industry; and on the nightclub stage. His books have topped bestseller lists for years." "Now this beloved show business centenarian serves up a treat for his fans in a book of his favorite and funniest stories, each and every one from his own private stock. From recollections of events in his past to tales about friends and performers who have crossed his path - including Al Jolson, Groucho Marx, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Ann-Margret, and Goldie Hawn - George Burns brings his unique, dry humor to each unforgettable story."--BOOK JACKET.
