XIII-[6]-176 pp. Rare ensemble qui témoigne surtout des travaux historiques et folkloriques de Philibert Le Duc (1815-1884) concernant le département de l'Ain. Dans ce volume, Le Duc réédite, en le préfaçant, le rare traité de démonologie "L'Antidémon de Mascon" du pasteur François Perrault (1572-1657) originaire de Gex, qui avait été publié au XVIIe siècle (Genève, Aubert,1653, Chouët, 1656, puis 1657). François Perrault y raconte les phénomènes surnaturels qui agitèrent sa maison à Mâcon, où il venait de s'installer en 1611 en tant que pasteur. Le Duc adjoint une biographie de François Perrault et un texte d'économie rurale de Gaspard Perrault de Jotemps, conseiller d'arrondissement (1786-1868), retiré à Gex. La deuxième partie du volume illustre le regain d'intérêt dans les années 1830-1850 pour les langues régionales et les patois. Il est intéressant de noter que, si Le Duc réédite un traité de démonologie connu pour sa rareté (Dorbon, 3615 / Caillet, 8530), il l'intègre dans un ensemble folklorique et régionaliste, sinon familial, sans s'attarder à l'étude des faits de sorcellerie au XVIIe siècle ou à l'attitude d'un pasteur calviniste aux prises avec des phénomènes de possession.Rappelons que Philibert Le Duc était le petit-fils du député et de l'historien du département de l'Ain Thomas Riboud (1755-1835) et le gendre de Gaspard Perrault de Jotemps, qui avait épousé également une fille de Thomas Riboud.
