Matt Reid created Fruit Snacks & Animal Crackers to provide his daughter, Sage, and her cousin, Nasir, with a world that mirrored their own culture and community. A veteran educator of twenty years, Matt was inspired by the boundless energy of his students to return to his first love: illustration.

Drawing on the classic charm of Winnie the Pooh and the wit of Calvin & Hobbes, Matt taught himself to draw through pure observation, eventually realizing that he was the best person to bring his own vision to life. Just like Rasby the Bear in Who Are You?, Matt’s journey is one of self-discovery and creative courage. He invites you to step into a world where your imagination is the main course—and it’s always okay to play with your food.
