Sharon Alexander

Born and raised in New York, Sharon Alexander now lives in Southern California. She divides her time between her cabin at 6200 feet in the small mountain town of Idyllwild and at the foot of the beautiful Santa Rosa Mountains in the Sonoran desert.

INSTRUCTIONS IN MY ABSENCE, Sharon's latest chapbook, is the winner of the 2016 Palettes & Quills International Chapbook contest.

About this book renowned poet David St. John has said: "There has always been a luminous sorcery to Sharon Alexander’s poetry, yet the breath-taking transformations in her new collection, Instructions in My Absence, mark these poems as her most extraordinary work yet...The speaker’s California dreams both ripen and darken as she faces her own mortality...Like night-blooming cereus, Sharon Alexander’s poems both thrive and blossom in darkness. Don’t do without this superb new book."

Sharon's previous chapbook, VOODOO TROMBONE, was published by Finishing Line Press, 2014. You can find her poems in numerous journals including Caliban On-line; Naugatuck River Review; Pinyon; Redheaded Stepchild; Santa Ana River Review; Slipstream; and Subprimal Poetry Art.

Her poetry also appears in several anthologies including Beyond the Lyric Moment (Tebot Bach, 2014); Poeming Pigeons (The Poetry Book, 2015); Spectrum: 140 SoCal Poets (Don Kingfisher Campbell, 2015) and Woman in Metaphor (NHH Press, 2013).
