Ellen C. Ranney

I have a passion for working with survivors of trauma, and those who support them. In the days of #MeToo, the need for accessible trauma recovery guidance is even more clear. My history of breast cancer treatment in my late thirties led me to a more personal journey of recovery from loss, this time from medical trauma.

As a mother of teens and younger, I searched for supportive personal and family interventions to assuage the intense anxiety and the painful aftereffect of surgery and chemotherapy. This led to a recovery odyssey of shared explorations with my clients, often those with attachment insecurities as severe as complex post trauma and dissociative disorders.

Professional training in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experience and Interpersonal Neurobiology interventions provided a vast and empowering window for my own and my traumatized clients and their families, and inspired me to share my journey with all who might benefit from my experiences of trauma and recovery in partnership with others on the journey. This desire to share and inform is at the heart of the FLOWING Recovery model described in Unkind Gifts: An Insider's Guide to Recovery from Trauma and Loss. Bluebird Book Publishing, 2016.

I hope my readers will benefit from the inclusion of therapeutic artwork and recovery stories from my journey. Please contact me with your questions and reactions, and leave a review for others to find their way to my book.

Wishing you FLOWING,

Ellen C Ranney, PhD, LMFT
