She built an empire out of a napkin sketch. Now everyone wants a seat at her table — and not all of them mean well.
Mira Solano knows exactly what it feels like to be erased. Ten years ago, someone she trusted took credit for her best idea and very nearly took her career with it. So she built something of her own, from nothing: a folding table, a sketchbook, and one friend reckless enough to bet everything on her. Now Lodestar is real. The kind of real that gets written about.
Then a business card turns up in her coat pocket, and with it, a face she's spent four years failing to forget a stranger from a rain-soaked afternoon, eleven unhurried minutes she never told a single person she still measured her life against. He has a name now. And he may be standing closer to her company's future than either of them bargained for.
The money arrives not long after. Patient. Charming. Dressed in a very good suit, offering her exactly the future she hasn't dared say out loud to anyone yet.
She tells herself she can take it and still keep control of everything she built.
Somewhere between a signature she should have read twice and a man she never planned to fall for, Mira is about to learn the truth about wolves: they don't always growl at the door. Sometimes they sit down at your table first. Sometimes they smile the entire time.
How much of what you build with your own hands can you actually keep when it's only ever as safe as the people you let sit across from you?
