Exploring the Deeper Meaning of Runes through Pagan Roots, Myth, Folklore, and Ritual.

The manuscript combines personal spiritual memoir, comparative mythology, cultural history, and a detailed guide to the twenty-four runes of the Elder Futhark. Its distinctive strength lies in connecting Nordic-Germanic tradition with Slavic folklore, ancestral practice, and sacred relationships with nature.

The runes are more than an ancient alphabet. They are signs of power, vessels of ancestral memory, and living gateways into the mysteries of nature, fate, and the human soul.

In The Whispering Tree, runologist Irina Scott brings together the spiritual worlds of the Nordic-Germanic and Slavic peoples-two traditions that stand like branches of a single ancient tree. Drawing upon mythology, folklore, historical sources, ritual practice, and memories of her Siberian childhood, she traces their shared reverence for nature, the gods, the ancestors, and the sacred power of word and symbol.

The book explores the origins and development of the runic tradition, the myths surrounding Odin and Yggdrasil, the role of women as seeresses and guardians of sacred knowledge, and the enduring place of magic in ancestral life. At its heart is an extensive journey through all twenty-four runes of the Elder Futhark, revealing their traditional meanings, mythological associations, Slavic parallels, and uses in divination, meditation, ritual, and personal transformation.

Written for both newcomers and experienced practitioners, The Whispering Tree invites the reader to approach the runes with knowledge, respect, and openness-to listen for the wisdom carried from root to branch, and to rediscover the ancient signs as mirrors of the self and guides upon the path.

"The objective of this book is a synthesis of the Nordic and Slavic Mysteries and Folk lore. It's brilliant. The Nordic Soul and the Slavic Soul are branches from the same Tree, its Roots in the past, in the mists of Time, its branches into a future of Peace Brotherhood, shared values, prosperity and spiritual growth. I am writing this unsolicited appraisal of the Work, simply because I am deeply impressed the depth of knowledge and insight is deeper and farther than any previous work on the Runes, including my own. The expression of this is pure poetry." Freya Aswynn
