WHEN WEAK MEN PLAY GOD: POWER
Book One of the When Weak Men Play God Trilogy
Erik Von Schmidt
Power rarely begins with a throne.
It begins with a desk.
A badge.
A white coat.
A whistle.
A pulpit.
A title.
A small piece of authority placed in ordinary hands.
And then someone discovers that another human being has to listen.
In WHEN WEAK MEN PLAY GOD: POWER, Erik Von Schmidt examines what happens when responsibility becomes entitlement, leadership becomes ownership, and ordinary authority begins feeding something far more dangerous.
A warehouse supervisor discovers that policy can punish without ever sounding cruel.
A police officer learns how easily suspicion can become justification.
A celebrated surgeon realizes fear can make an operating room efficient—until someone becomes too afraid to speak.
A winning coach begins confusing a young athlete’s future with his own success.
A priest discovers that trust can give one man’s opinion the weight of God.
None of them begin as monsters.
That is the problem.
Power does not always corrupt. Sometimes it exposes what was already there: insecurity, resentment, pride, fear, vanity, the hunger to be obeyed, and the quiet satisfaction of discovering that resistance now carries consequences.
Through intertwined stories of workplaces, hospitals, police departments, churches, schools, families, and institutions, POWER explores the smallest kingdoms—the places where people first discover what authority tastes like.
This is not a book about one political party.
It is not about one religion.
It is not about one race, profession, ideology, or country.
It is about human beings.
About why good intentions do not guarantee good authority.
About why rules can become weapons while remaining technically legitimate.
About why people often mistake obedience for respect.
And about the moment when “I have the authority to do this” quietly becomes “I have the right to do this.”
Because the most dangerous person in the room is not always the obvious tyrant.
Sometimes it is the ordinary man who has finally discovered that no one is willing to tell him no.
POWER is Book One of the When Weak Men Play God trilogy.
The next stage is PERMISSION.
And after permission comes ABSOLUTE.
