However, these stereotypes have evolved over the past few decades and there has been an increased concern regarding the influence of gender norms in modern society. In particular, the means by which is it learned and its role in forming gender inequality, occupational segregation, and prejudice. In addition to research involving the presence of gender roles in childhood and the media, the societal construct of appropriate behavior for women is analyzed, along with statistics regarding gender wage gaps, occupational segregation, and discriminatory biases.
