Your application may not need faster code. It may need to stop doing the same work over and over again.
A page can be perfectly optimized and still feel slow when every request crosses continents, reaches the origin, waits on dependencies, regenerates an answer that already exists, and sends the same bytes back across the network.
Caching changes that equation.
But production caching is not as simple as increasing a TTL or switching on a CDN.
What happens when a browser keeps yesterday's JavaScript after a deployment? Why does a CDN report a high hit ratio while the origin bill keeps climbing? Which cookies belong in a cache key? When is stale content safer than an error? How do you invalidate thousands of distributed objects without creating a traffic surge? And how do you accelerate personalized applications without accidentally serving one user's data to another?
Web Caching and Edge Delivery gives developers, platform engineers, DevOps professionals, architects, and technical leaders a practical framework for designing faster and more resilient web delivery systems.
Rather than focusing on one vendor, the book builds from durable HTTP principles and then shows how those ideas extend into modern CDNs and programmable edge platforms. The manuscript explicitly targets developers, platform/DevOps professionals, architects, and technical leaders rather than assuming the reader is already an HTTP specialist.
Inside, you'll learn how to:
- Understand where latency actually accumulates across client, network, edge, origin, and dependencies
- Use browser caching intelligently with freshness rules, validators, conditional requests, and versioned URLs
- Understand Cache-Control, max-age, s-maxage, private, no-store, no-cache, and immutable without relying on misleading intuition
- Design reverse-proxy and shared-cache architectures that reduce repeated origin work
- Prevent cache stampedes with request collapsing, stale serving, shields, and controlled refill behavior
- Design cache keys that preserve correctness without destroying hit rates through unnecessary variation
- Handle query parameters, cookies, authentication, language, geography, experiments, and device variants safely
- Choose freshness policies based on business tolerance for staleness rather than arbitrary TTL conventions
- Combine validation, stale-while-revalidate, stale-if-error, and explicit invalidation
- Build event-driven invalidation using tags, dependency information, and targeted purge
- Avoid purge-all workflows that turn the cache into an origin-load amplifier
- Cache dynamic and personalized applications while keeping shared and private data properly separated
- Understand CDN points of presence, shields, origin selection, cold-cache behavior, and multi-CDN trade-offs
- Use programmable edge logic for routing, normalization, token validation, transformation, and controlled personalization
- Protect applications against cache poisoning, cache deception, privacy leaks, unsafe headers, and authorization mistakes
- Measure cache effectiveness using origin offload, miss cost, stale-serving rate, regional latency, and delivery-layer SLOs
- Treat cache policies, invalidation rules, and edge configuration as production infrastructure that requires testing, canaries, rollback, and observability
- Build an edge-delivery strategy that scales from individual optimizations into a governed delivery platform
Stop making every request travel farther and work harder than necessary. Design delivery so the right answer is reused at the right place, for the right audience, for exactly as long as it remains trustworthy.

Descripción de la tienda
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
