In 2025, eleven scientists face an impossible choice: cross 473 light-years through cryosleep to save a dying alien planet—knowing they'll never see Earth, or anyone they love, again.
An epic hard science fiction saga spanning 6,000 years, 147 worlds, and the fate of biological humanity itself.
Kepler-438b has everything life needs: oxygen, oceans, forests, and primitive organisms. But its magnetic field is collapsing. In 200 years, cosmic radiation will sterilize everything. NASA's Pathfinder mission is humanity's answer—eleven brilliant minds volunteering for a 420-year journey in cryosleep to install field generators and save an entire biosphere.
But saving a world is only the beginning.
The journey will take 420 years. The consequences will last millennia.
When they arrive, four crew members make a choice that will echo across human history: they stay. Forever. Building civilization from scratch on an alien world while their colleagues return to an Earth transformed beyond recognition—a posthuman future where uploaded consciousness has replaced biological existence.
The colony survives against impossible odds. Genetic bottlenecks. Isolation. First contact with ancient alien civilizations: the musical Singers, the crystalline Architects, and the Weavers who reshape galaxies. Each encounter forces one question: What does it mean to remain human when humanity itself is evolving?
This sweeping space opera explores:
- Hard science fiction realism: cryosleep, wormholes, time dilation, magnetic field engineering
- Multiple alien civilizations with unique philosophies of consciousness
- The ethics of terraforming and biological preservation
- Generational ships and colony establishment
- Posthuman transcendence vs. biological humanity
- Genetic rescue and population bottleneck survival
- Deep time storytelling across 6,000 years
- First contact protocols and interspecies diplomacy
- The cost of exploration and the weight of sacrifice
- Kim Stanley Robinson's Aurora and 2312
- Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Time
- Andy Weir's Project Hail Mary
- Liu Cixin's The Three-Body Problem
- Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space
- Stephen Baxter's Xeelee Sequence
"Hard science fiction that makes you feel. The scope is breathtaking—six thousand years of human civilization on an alien world, yet every character feels real, every sacrifice matters."
"This is what science fiction should be: big ideas, human hearts, and the courage to ask what we'd sacrifice for meaning that outlasts us."
"If you loved Project Hail Mary's problem-solving and The Expanse's scope, this delivers both while exploring deeper questions about consciousness, mortality, and what makes us human."
From crossing the void to building civilizations across 147 worlds, from First Contact with ancient intelligences to the choice between biological existence and digital transcendence—this is humanity's future told as epic adventure and intimate human drama.
The magnetic field generators can save a biosphere for millions of years.
But can the humans who installed them save themselves?
6,000 years. 147 worlds. Billions of descendants. One impossible journey that started with eleven souls brave enough to cross the infinite dark.

Descripción de la tienda
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
