This book is an attempt to show that an understanding of the Chinese mind is only possible as a result of conversation between Chinese philosophers. Nine philosophers with a reputation both in Western and Chinese philosophy explore different facets of the Chinese mind by focusing on topical issues in philosophy, linguistics, and religion. The result is a unified volume which is both a contribution to the hermeneutics of cross-cultural interpretation and an attempt to investigate the unique features of Chinese philosophy and the Chinese mind. There is an extensive bibliography of Chinese and Western language sources.
