Descripción del artículo del vendedor

The Ulysses Theme: A Study in the Adaptability of a Traditional Hero, by W. B. Stanford, with a new foreword by Charles Boer, traces the figure of Odysseus (Ulysses) from Homer through Greek tragedy, Virgil, Dante, Tennyson, Joyce, Kazantzakis and other modern writers. Stanford shows how successive ages have reshaped the hero: wily, brave, wandering, a husband, father and son, a trickster and a seeker. This is the Spring Publications edition, Dallas, 1992, with Boer's new foreword "The Classicist and the Psychopath." The copyright page records: first printing of the Spring Publications edition 1992, from the edition of Basil Blackwell, who first printed the book in 1954, issued a revised edition in 1963 and reprinted it with corrections and additions in 1968. Soft cover. Provenance No inscriptions, bookplates or ownership marks are noted in the photographed pages. Condition Condition: Very Good. Paperback with light wear. The covers show light edge rubbing and the back cover carries a small price mark near the top. The spine is lightly creased and the binding is tight. The text block is clean and the pages are bright. Photographs are part of the listing detail. Significance / Collector Appeal Stanford's study is the standard account of the afterlife of Odysseus in Western literature, and the Spring edition adds Charles Boer's psychological foreword, appealing to readers of classics, comparative literature, myth criticism and archetypal psychology.
