"American symphonic music probably owes more to the uninterrupted efforts of Dr. Koussevitzky and the Boston Symphony Orchestra than to any other conductor or orchestral group." [Leichtentritt, Serge Koussevitzky, p. 3]. Three years later, in 1949, after 25 years as conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Koussevitzky stepped down. He died in 1951.
