Descripción del artículo del vendedor

The two items from the papers of Sir Richard Harington of Ridlington, 12th Baronet, who features as 'R. Harrington [sic]' in the 'Progress Return'. The pamphlet is 6pp., 12mo. The front page is headed, with crown-and-anchor device, 'Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers. | London Brigade. | Head Quarters, | H.M.S. Frolic, off Somerset House, W.C | December, 1891.' Printed by Woodfall & Kinder, Printers, 70 to 76, Long Acre, London, W.C.' Aged and grubby. Folded into a packet and addressed, with postmarked Halfpenny Red stamp, to 'R. Harington Esq | 1 New Court | Temple | E.C.' The front page gives details of 'Dress', by order of E. B. Fletcher, Lieut.-Instructor. Pp.2-3 give notices relating to the 'London Corps', again by Fletcher; p.4 concerns the 'Brighton Corps. | Head Quarters, King's Road, | December, 1891.' Pp.5-6 give details, by A. H. Fry, Sub-Lieutenant in Command, of the five matches in 'The Annual Prize Meeting'. The poster, on one side of a 53.5 x 41.5 cm sheet, is headed 'Royal Naval Artillery Volunteers. | Progress Return of No. 3 Battery, for 1890.' Printed by 'W. COLLINS, Printer, Victoria Works, Wendover Road, Harlesden.' Folded into the customary packet, with the outer title: 'III. BATTERY. | "MIRROR." | 1890.' In fair condition, aged and with grubby reverse. At the head is a large table giving the names of members, with a myriad details relating to drill and marksmanship. ('R Harrington [sic]' is described as 'NE', standing for 'non-efficient'. Beneath the table, and occupying the bottom third of the page, is various information, including 'facts' for which the year 1890 'has been chiefly remarkable': 'The number of Assaults-at-Arms attended by members of the Battery; The number of Cruises the Diligent has gone; The death of surgeon G. H. Bishop, a most zealous officer, who knew every member of his Battery, and was beloved by all who knew him; and the number of Prizes won by the Battery'. A list of the prizes and prize-winners, in three columns, concludes the page. No copies of either item traced, either on OCLC WorldCat or on COPAC.
