First published by Jonathan Cape in 1941, this third impression was printed in 1943. This book examines Cornish life in Tudor Times with emphisis on the impact of The Reformation and the integration of the Celtic County into the English-speaking, wider British nation. Aspects the author considers are Cornwall's history, its economic, religious military and cultural traditions and the effect integration had on the area's traditional society. 462 pages including abbreviations list and index, b/w art frontis portrait, seven other plates mostly photos with some art. four fold out maps. Green hard covers are VG with mottling to front top edge, light wear to spine hinges, few mottling spots front vertical edge, worn spot at spine top, gilt decoration to front board, gilt spine titles slightly dulled. internally excellent, no inscriptions.
