From the dustwrapper, "Sir Valentine Pugin-Stuart, newly succeeded to he baronetcy, is the centre of this novel of encounter and intrigue. On holiday in Paris, he meets the people who are to play such a large and perplexing part in his life during the following months - Madge Weedy, a young English girl who commits suicide because of her love for the callous Henri Maillot; Montrouge, a world-famous sculptor, and his equally famous model Zara Gobelin. The enigmatic Zara asks Sir Valentine to give Henri Maillot £5,000 so that he can retire to the country and write his masterpiece, an experimental about the Second Coming. Henri is said to be tubercular, bu Sir Valentine has his suspicions. Instead of putting up the money, he takes Henri and Zara to his house in Yorkshire. There he falls in love with Zara, and helplessly watches the drama unfold before him. He is a good man, and gentle, unable to prevent the tragedy which he feels to be inevitable." Condition: The book is in very good condition, with some light offsetting and browning to the endpapers, and browning to the page edges. The dustwrapper is heavily creased along the edges with small areas of loss, and a closed tear to the top edge. It is also tanned to the rear. However, it has not been price-clipped and is now within a protective sleeve. N° de ref. de la librería 005923
