Paperback. "A Tribute" is an evocative collection of writings dedicated to the esteemed American philosopher and legal scholar, Morris Raphael Cohen. Compiled by a group of his devoted students-those who characterized themselves as the youth who sat at his feet-this volume serves as both a historical record and a heartfelt testament to the profound impact of a thinker who significantly shaped twentieth-century American intellectual life. The work explores the depth of Cohen's contributions to logic, legal theory, and the philosophy of science. Through various reflections and testimonials, it illustrates his unique pedagogical approach and his legendary ability to inspire rigorous critical thinking. As a window into the academic culture of the early twentieth century, "A Tribute" highlights the mentorship and intellectual camaraderie that defined Cohen's career and his influence at the City College of New York. This collection is an essential resource for those interested in the history of American philosophy and the legacy of one of its most rigorous and influential figures. It preserves the voices of a generation of scholars who were molded by Cohen's uncompromising search for truth, clarity, and the integration of scientific method into philosophical inquiry. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
