Book condition: very good, very scarce original 1740 publication handsomely bound in full leather, first French edition, translated by Louis Philon, title loosely translates to "deals with atheism and superstition with historical and philosophical remarks", b/w frontis illustration of Ernest Auguste, leather binding offers a wood grain look, minimal scuffing to corners, a bit more to front spine edge, beautiful gilt detail on spine with five raised bands and red title block, scuffing to spine head, decorative paper on pastedowns and endpapers, small owner's bookplate on front pastedown, a few pencil marks on front and back endpapers, one inch square missing from blank back endpaper bottom outside corner, title page and some text block slightly darkened otherwise interior very clean, binding tight, 368 pages followed by table of contents, 5.25 X 8 inches.
