"Touchdown" is a seminal account of the development and rise of American football, authored by the legendary coach Amos Alonzo Stagg in collaboration with Wesley Winans Stout. As one of the most influential figures in the sport's history, Stagg provides an insider's perspective on the evolution of the gridiron from its primitive, often chaotic beginnings into a disciplined and strategic national pastime.

The work serves as both a memoir and a historical chronicle, detailing the innovations-such as the huddle, the shift, and the forward pass-that transformed the game during Stagg's long and storied career. The narrative captures the spirit of early collegiate athletics, highlighting the intense rivalries and the cultural impact of football in America. Stagg reflects on his formative years at Yale and his decades-long tenure at the University of Chicago, offering profound insights into his coaching philosophy and the character-building qualities he believed the sport imparted to its players.

"Touchdown" is an essential read for sports historians and football enthusiasts, preserving the legacy of a man whose contributions defined the modern game and illustrating the formative years of a beloved American institution.
