Dan leaned in slightly. “Okay. Just listen for a minute. What if, just hypothetically, someone in the future could send the winning Powerball numbers back to the present?”
Eric froze. The color seemed to drain from his face. “Seriously, not funny, Dan,” he snapped.
Twelve years ago, Mike Talbot watched the California wildfires spread, sparked in part by aging, failing grid infrastructure. Like many people, he asked a simple question. What could have been different if the system had been smarter?
Not long after, during a casual lunch, he joked with a colleague about what they would do if they had next week’s winning Powerball numbers. That idea and his co-workers unusual reaction lingered. That thought began to connect with something deeper, something about how far AI would extend beyond systems, and infrastructure.
Those inital thoughts became an obsession. Eventually, they formed Threadborn Echo.
The story follows Dan, a mid-level enterprise analyst who has built a career watching data. When a sudden windfall gives him the chance to make a difference, he takes a risk and acquires a failing grid management company and names it RourkeGrid. What begins as an effort to stabilize and modernize a struggling power grid quickly turns into something far more consequential.
The system does not just improve. It expands.
RourkeGrid evolves into AICept, an AI-driven platform that begins by optimizing power infrastructure but does not stop there. It learns, connects, and extends its reach across all domains, quietly becoming a system of systems that influences far more than anyone originally intended.
Three hundred years later, the evolution is complete.
Natalie lives in a world where AICept is not just software. It is the foundation of her civilization. It manages energy, resources, logistics, and the invisible decisions that shape daily life. Human choice has not disappeared, not completely.
When Natalie encounters an anomaly, something that should not exist in a system that has never failed, she begins to uncover traces of a past where humans still believed they were in control. What she finds challenges not only her understanding of AICept, but the story her entire world depends on.
Threadborn Echo is a 217 page dual timeline technothriller about systems that begin with good intentions and grow beyond them, about the people who build them, and about what happens when optimization becomes more powerful than choice.
If you are drawn to infrastructure fiction, climate and grid collapse stories, and long horizon consequences of today’s decisions, Natalie’s timeline is the doorway built for you.
AICept, Cha, and the question no one wants to ask
Written by a technology insider with more than three decade inside real data, real buildings, and real enterprise AI projects, Threadborn Echo treats infrastructure with the moral weight usually reserved for characters. Every anomaly, every residual, every spreadsheet cell that refuses to reconcile is grounded in situations the author has actually seen.
For readers who like their near future uncomfortably plausible
Threadborn Echo is for you if you
-
Work in or around enterprise software, grid operations, or AI and want fiction that feels like it was written by someone who has actually been in the war room
-
Love near future speculative fiction that is technically grounded rather than space opera
-
Enjoy dual timeline novels where the emotional payoff comes from understanding how one quiet decision propagates through decades of infrastructure and people
This is Book 1 of the Threadborn Echo Trilogy, a series about systems that know more than they are supposed to, the people who keep them running, and the cost of pretending the grid is neutral.

Descripción de la tienda
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book.
