THOUGHT-CONTROL IN EVERYDAY LIFE, James Alexander, hardcover with no dust jacket, stated 5th edition, 1928. BOOK CONDITION: fair. The text block is in very good condition, with no tears, dogears, or marks. The pages and endpapers are age-toned. The bottom edge has a spot and an indentation. There is no bookplate or signature of a prior owner. Not a library book or remainder. The green cloth boards are in poor condition (edge wear, bumped corners and spine, fading along edges, bumped and faded spine, lots of rubbed spots on front and back covers as well as the spine). Cocked spine. 7 ½ x 5, 261 pages, 16 ounces XX At first, I thought this was an amazingly early book about controlling the minds of others (brainwashing, etc.), but it is a how-to book about controlling one?s own thoughts. A sample of the chapter headings will provide some idea of what James Alexander was proposing to be possible: Your Thought Atmosphere, How Imagination Affects Our World, How The Mind Works, How Thoughts Enter The Mind, The Origin Of Our Joys And Sorrows, A Talk On The Emotions, A Talk On Instincts And Impulses, Seven Powerful Emotions And Their Characteristic Instincts, Four Important Instincts And Their Effects Upon Our Lives, Emotions That Play Havoc With Thought Control, Hereditary Tendencies That Generally Affect Our Lives, Ideas That Capture The Mind, A Talk On Suggestion, A Talk On Habit, How Our Temperaments Affect Our Thoughts, A Talk On The Will And Willpower, How To Begin The Practice Of Thought Control, Things That Help In The Practice Of Thought Control, Thought Control And Practice In Everyday Life.
