Things That Are Or Could Be

THINGS THAT ARE OR COULD BE is a collection of fables, several with a Jewish bent. While all writers are inspired by life or by the life they vicariously experience in the writing of other writers, I have taken my inspiration for this collection of short stories from the fables of Sholom Aleichem, the nineteenth century Yiddish author most famous for his tales about Tevye the Dairyman, which became the basis for the acclaimed musical “Fiddler on the Roof.” While his fables are arise from orthodox religious life and struggles in the nineteenth century shtetls of Eastern Europe, most of mine are updated to our times and seek to match his wit and wisdom.
