The Theory of Approximation. Este artículo no está disponible. The Theory of Approximation

"The Theory of Approximation" by Dunham Jackson is a foundational mathematical treatise that explores the fundamental principles behind approximating continuous functions with simpler structures, such as polynomials and trigonometric series. As an essential contribution to mathematical literature, this work provides a rigorous framework for understanding one of the most practical branches of mathematical analysis.

Jackson examines the degree of approximation attainable for various classes of functions, laying the groundwork for what are now known as Jackson-type theorems. The book covers essential topics including the theory of orthogonal polynomials, the convergence of Fourier series, and the properties of best approximations under different norms. His clear exposition and logical structure helped standardize the field during a period of significant development in the early 20th century.

This volume remains a significant resource for mathematicians and scholars interested in the history of numerical and functional analysis. Its focus on the structural properties of functions and the efficiency of mathematical representation makes it a cornerstone text for understanding how complex mathematical concepts are simplified for both theoretical study and practical computation.
