Print on Demand. This book delves into the life and works of John Greenleaf Whittier, a renowned American Quaker poet known for his advocacy of abolitionism and his literary contributions to the New England Renaissance. The book provides a comprehensive examination of Whittier's early life, influences, and the impact of his Quaker beliefs on his writings. Whittier's deep commitment to social justice is evident throughout his poetry, particularly in his powerful anti-slavery poems. He was an active participant in the abolitionist movement, using his writing as a tool to expose the horrors of slavery and advocate for its end. The book explores how his Quaker principles, which emphasized peace, equality, and compassion, shaped his perspective on slavery and motivated his activism. Beyond his abolitionist work, Whittier also celebrated the beauty of the New England landscape and the simple lives of its people in his poetry. His poems evoke vivid images of nature and capture the essence of rural New England life, reflecting his deep connection to his surroundings. The book analyzes the literary techniques and themes that characterize Whittier's poetry, showcasing his mastery of language and his ability to convey profound emotions and ideas. This book offers a valuable contribution to the study of American literature and history. It provides a comprehensive understanding of Whittier's life, beliefs, and literary legacy, examining his role as a social activist, poet, and significant figure in the New England Renaissance. It is a must-read for those interested in American literature, abolitionism, and the cultural landscape of the 19th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. A late magazine writer has spoken of the new and good fashion of teaching the poems of our best writers to children in school.
This outline was arranged to save this new and good fashion from becoming either haphazard or machine work. Most children are delighted to learn something of a noted author, for children are naturally addicted to hero-worship. Teach them to find the thought and motive which makes the hero.
Every child should be supplied with a good blank book and if possible the small pictures of Whittier and his home which may be obtained from the publisher of this book for a trifle.
