The characters don't simply appear on a generic fingerboard chart. Each one is doing something memorable in the particular place where that note lives. The artwork gives your brain visual landmarks for the strings, spots, octaves and individual note locations, helping turn the fingerboard into a mental map rather than a collection of dots to memorize.
