'Telling Time' is the theme of the 10th Bamako Encounters, African Biennale of Photography, which also marks the 20 year anniversary of the event. All of the images here are from this event and they all delve laterally into the theme of 'Africa.' Humour abounds and there is no lack of self-criticism and reflexivity on the part of the artists - both of themselves and their countries.
Acerca del autor:
Antawan I. Byrd is currently a PhD candidate in Art History at Northwestern University, focusing on modern and contemporary African Art and the African diaspora.
Yves Chatap is an independent art critic and curator. He holds a Master in Art History from the University of Paris, Sorbonne.
Bisi Silva is the founder and artistic director of the Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos (CCA, Lagos), which opened in December 2007. Silva has written on contemporary art for international publications including Art Monthly, Untitled, Third Text, M Metropolis, Agufon and for Nigerian newspapers.
