A Sustainable Future with E-Mobility: Concepts, Challenges, and Implementations

Integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into power distribution systems presents significant challenges, particularly concerning power source dependability and grid stability. The distribution system, a critical element of the power system, is susceptible to failures and power outages exacerbated by the extensive adoption of EVs. Additionally, managing the administration, monitoring, and control of power systems in the context of EV integration is a complex and daunting task for energy experts. A Sustainable Future with E-Mobility: Concepts, Challenges, and Implementations offers a comprehensive solution to these challenges. It explores infrastructure frameworks, planning strategies, control strategies, and software applications for integrating EVs with power distribution systems, focusing on innovative grid developments. By providing insights into architectural reconfiguration, restoration strategies, power quality control, and regulatory aspects, the book equips students, researchers, academicians, policymakers, and industry experts with the knowledge needed to achieve a secure, resilient, and efficient integration of EVs into distribution networks.

Lakshmi D. is presently designated as a Senior Associate Professor in the School of Computing Science and Engineering (SCSE) and Assistant Director, at the Centre for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL) at VIT Bhopal. From 2016 to 2021 served as an Educational Research Officer, at Vishnu Educational Development and Innovation Centre (VEDIC) Shri Vishnu Educational Society, Hyderabad She has 26 years of teaching experience. She has addressed innumerable guest lectures, acted as a session chair, and was invited as a keynote speaker at several international conferences. She has conducted FDPs that cover approximately ~1,00,000 plus faculty members including JNTU, TEQIP, SERB, SWAYAM, DST, AICTE, MHRD, ATAL, ISTE, Madhya Pradesh Government-sponsored, MALVIYA MISSION TEACHER TRAINING, Central University of Gujarat and self-financed workshops across India as well as Misamis University, Philipines on Artificial Intelligence in Education: The Future and Futuristic Perspectives both theory and practical sessions. The other titles such as Modern Tools and Software in Teaching Learning Practices, Outcome Based Education, Scientific Educational Practices, Flipped Learning, Blended Learning, Activity Based Learning, Marching towards Quality and Excellence in Higher Educational Institutions, NEP 2022, Emotional Intelligence, Python Essential, Data Analytics, IoT, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cyber Security, AR/VR in Medicine, Architecture and Military Applications Instructional Strategies, Assessment techniques, Research Writing, etc. She has 20 international conference presentations, and 50 international journal papers and book chapters inclusive of SCOPUS & SCI. A total of 20 SCOPUS-indexed book chapters. A total of 24 patents are in various stages and 18 patents have been granted at both national and international levels. She was appointed as an external examiner for several Ph.D candidates at reputed universities. Under her supervision, one scholar has completed a Ph.D. at Annamalai University. One scholar is pursuing a Ph.D. right now at VIT Bhopal University. She has won two Best Paper awards at international conferences, one at the IEEE conference and another one at EAMMIS 2021 (First European, Asian, Middle Eastern North African Conference on Management & Information Systems). She received two awards in the year 2022 on the eve of Teacher's Day 1. Kamal Sharma Award of Academic Excellence - 2022 from Lexicon Group of Institutions, Pune for the Engaged Pedagogies. from the virtual ceremony. 2. Bharat Academic Excellence “UttamaAdyapika” Award from Braino Vision. She published a book on “Theory of Computation“ in 2003, “Leading Education in the Age of Disruption” in 2021, and “Smart Cities: Disruptive Technologies Driving the Force”, in 2023. In the last three editions, she acted as a SPOC for KAVACH and the Smart India Hackathon. She has created 15 hours of the high-quality “Python Essentials” online course at VITyarthi Online Learning Platform. She has 9 SCOPUS Indexed book edits with three CRS Press, Taylor, and Francis, four IGI Global, and two IEEE Rivers.

Neelu Nagpal (Senior Member, IEEE) received the bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Delhi College of Engineering, the master’ degree (Hons.) in control and instrumentation from Delhi University, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Delhi Technological University, Delhi, India. She is presently working as an Associate Professor in EEE Department of Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi (affiliated to GGSIP University, Delhi). She has a grant of one Australian patent. Her research interests include stochastic and nonlinear control, state estimation, smart grid technologies, renewable energy integration, and artificial intelligence. She was a recipient of the Commendable Research Award from Delhi Technological University, during her Ph.D. course. She is the Vice-Chair of the 2023 IEEE Smart Cities Ambassador Program. She is Associate Editor of IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (Special issue) and Editor of 2 books.

Neelam Kassarwani received her B. E. degree in electrical engineering from Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur, her M.E. degree in electrical engineering (Power Apparatus and Systems) from Delhi University, Delhi, India, and her Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, Haryana, India. She did her Ph.D. on the topic “Performance Study of Dynamic Voltage Restorer for Mitigation of Voltage Sags”. Currently, she is working as an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at the Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology, Delhi, India. She received the award of national scholarship during her graduation. She has vast experience in teaching various subjects, power systems, control systems, materials in electrical systems, and power electronics for more than eighteen years in various Technical Institutes. She has also worked with a Govt. Consultancy as an Electrical Engineer for eight years. She has published various papers in international journals and conferences. Her research findings are related to artificial intelligence, machine learning applications in power systems, power systems, dynamic voltage restorer, load frequency control, load forecasting, prediction, and optimization techniques. She has authored and co authored various research papers, and chapters published.

Vishnuvarthanan Govindaraj is an Associate Professor at VIT-Bhopal University, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in the Division of Data Science of the School of Computing Science and Education. He earned a PhD in Electronics and Communication Engineering for his thesis “Tumor Detection and Tissue Segmentation in Multimodal MR Brain Images Using Fuzzy and Optimization Techniques” in 2015. He taught at three of Tamil Nadu's top engineering schools for fourteen years. He has published more than 100 journal papers in 31 international journals included in the Science Citation Index Database, with the greatest impact factor being 17.560 and the average being 4.923. His publications in IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems (12.253), Industrial Informatics (11.648), and Information Fusion (Elsevier) are notable. He has written or co-written more than 70 SCOPUS-indexed conference papers. He has two Scopus-indexed book chapters and has reviewed fourteen journals, including IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, Neural Networks and Learning Systems, Current Medical Imaging and Reviews, and Neural Processing Letters. Three journals―Computers in Biology and Medicine, Applied Soft Computing, and OPTIK―have accredited him as a reviewer. Medical Image Processing, AI, Machine Learning, and Pattern Recognition are his specialties.

Pierluigi Siano (M’09–SM'14) received the M.Sc. degree in electronic engineering and the Ph.D. degree in information and electrical engineering from the University of Salerno, Salerno, Italy, in 2001 and 2006, respectively. He is a Full Professor of Electrical Power Systems and Scientific Director of the Smart Grids and Smart Cities Laboratory with the Department of Management & Innovation Systems, University of Salerno. In 2013 he received the Italian National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in the competition sector electrical energy engineering. His research activities are centered on the integration of distributed energy resources in smart distribution systems and on planning and management of power systems. In these research fields, he has co-authored more than 760 articles including more than 460 international journals that received in Scopus more than 20200 citations with an H-index equal to 68. Since 2019 he has been awarded as a Highly Cited Researcher in Engineering by Web of Science Group. He has been the Chair of the IES TC on Smart Grids. He is an Editor for the Power & Energy Society Section of IEEE Access, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON POWER SYSTEMS, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL INFORMATICS, IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON INDUSTRIAL ELECTRONICS, IEEE SYSTEMS.
