Print on Demand. This book brings to life the story of a marriage announced with great fanfare and dissolved under a veil of mystery and intrigue. It is a story of lost love, broken vows, and redemption set against the backdrop of opulence and scandal in high society. The narrative follows Kathleen, a young woman from a well-known family, and her whirlwind marriage to Reginald, a charming but reckless heir. The union, however, unravels within a few short months, leaving Kathleen to make a life-altering decision that sets the stage for the events to come. As the author delves into the lives and motivations of its characters, this book explores themes of societal expectations, the complexities of marriage, and the quest for personal identity. Through the experiences of Kathleen and Reginald, readers will question the nature of love, duty, and the lengths individuals will go to protect their reputations. Ultimately, this book offers a timeless meditation on the human condition and the enduring power of hope, making it a captivating read for those interested in historical fiction, romance, and the complexities of human relationships. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The fashionable congregation which filled St George's, Hanover Square, to overflowing, one afternoon in late June, came to its feet with a rustling of silk and a jingling of chains and trinkets, stirring the heavy air with a waft of mingled exotic perfumes as the first crashing chords of that wedding march which speeds so many people forth to sorrow and joy, monotony, peace, or strenuous anxiety, came thundering through the aisles.
It was a very self-possessed and dignified bride whose exit from the vestry, followed by a train of no less than eight bridesmaids, was thus heralded by Mendelssohn's hackneyed strains.
Tall and slim in her clinging white gown, Kathleen Sherbon looked almost regal as she passed the rows of inquisitive faces, her veil thrown back, and the sunlight, softened by its passage through the stained-glass windows, fall ing on her still face, and touching her soft, pale brown hair into gleams of gold.
