He followed the greatest leader Israel had ever known — and became great in his own right.

Joshua stood in the long shadow of Moses for forty years: the servant who waited, the soldier who would not seize the throne, the faithful man overlooked while a whole generation died in the wilderness. Then God made him great in the sight of all Israel — not by his grasping, but by his serving.

More Than a Successor is a full-length study of the life, faith, and leadership of Joshua, written for everyone who has ever been asked to follow a legend. Moving from Joshua's hidden apprenticeship to the conquest of the promised land, it traces the making of a leader God could trust — and draws from it a blueprint for the second, the successor, the one still waiting for his turn.

The companion volume to Moses: The Man God Made Great, this book combines pastoral depth with serious biblical scholarship. It includes deep exegetical essays on two of the most debated passages in the Old Testament — the Commander of the LORD's host at Jericho and the long day at Gibeon — along with a fifteen-week group study, a Hebrew and Greek lexicon, and a classified bibliography for further study.

For the pulpit, the seminary, and the pew alike. For the one who serves in the shadow and wonders whether his turn will ever come.

Come and learn the blueprint from the man who followed a legend, and was made great himself.
