"Studies in the Umbelliferae" is a significant botanical work by the esteemed botanist Mildred Esther Mathias, focusing on the complex and diverse family of plants known as Umbelliferae (now commonly referred to as Apiaceae). This family includes well-known species such as carrots, celery, parsley, and parsnips, and Mathias's research provides critical insights into their taxonomy, morphology, and distribution.

This scholarly work serves as a foundational text for understanding the structural characteristics and classification of these flowering plants. Through detailed observation and rigorous scientific inquiry, Mathias explores the variations within the family, contributing to the broader field of plant systematics. The study is essential for botanists, researchers, and students interested in the evolutionary history and identification of the Umbelliferae.

By providing meticulous descriptions and focusing on the biological diversity of this essential plant group, "Studies in the Umbelliferae" remains a valuable reference for those dedicated to the study of the natural world. Its focus on accurate taxonomic data and morphological detail makes it a timeless resource in the history of North American botanical research.
