Book size - c. 10 x 7 x 5 inches, pp. pages unnumbered but estimated at about 2,500 , hardback in cloth. Book condition - Good plus ; preliminaries with some soiling and chipping of page edges but rapidly dimishing into the textblock, no inscriptions, no foxing, inner hinges intact and binding secure - the book has been re-cased a number of years ago and has replacement endpapers which show some off -setting around the edges ; replacement black cloth with original spine laid on ; corners intact and boards' edges all good, back clean though with some mottling of colour, spine complete with ends not creased or split, original spine gilt title etc shows some rubbing and dulling but remains legible, front clean. This directory is a vast reference list of makers and manufacturers of goods, and providers of services, available in Britain and Europe at the end of the Victorian period . If you want to find, say, Millstone Makers in the London area, or Explosive Manufacturers around the UK or Needle Makers in Europe , or just about anything you can think of , then it's to be found here. The entries are also interspersed with engraved period advertisements of the period . As might be expected for a book about 13 cm thick, the weight is considerable - 4.6 kilos - and so postage costs will be higher than standard rates quoted on ABEBooks, and all but rule out buyers outside of the UK.
