First edition. The largest paper copy in folio (37 x 28cm), the work being published in octavo at £1 12s 6d, quarto at £2 10s & here in folio at £3 3s with the plates on india paper. 'I do not know of any work in which, on the whole, there is a more unaffected love of ships for their own sake, and a fresher feeling of sea-breeze always blowing, than Stanfield's Coast Scenery.'- Allibone, quoting Ruskin. 'Very attractive on large paper in the publisher's gold-stamped morocco binding.'- Ray. pp.viii,128. With a frontispiece, additional engraved title & 38 plates, all on steel after Stanfield & engraved by Finden, Cooke & many others. Publisher's de-luxe full morocco elaborately tooled, aeg. Some light rubbing & a 12cm split to upper rear hinge, though the spine and binding quite sound & tight. A clean copy, some very light browning to the outer plate margins.
