Hardcover. The "Standard Encyclopedia of the Alcohol Problem" represents one of the most comprehensive reference works ever compiled regarding the global history and impact of alcohol consumption and the movement toward temperance. This volume serves as a detailed chronicle of the social, medical, legal, and economic dimensions of the alcohol problem, offering an exhaustive overview of the international struggle for prohibition and reform.Covering topics from the chemical properties of alcoholic beverages to the history of liquor legislation across various nations, the encyclopedia provides readers with extensive biographical sketches of leading figures in the temperance movement, descriptions of social organizations, and statistical analyses of alcohol's societal effects. As a product of the early 20th century, it captures the height of the Prohibition era's scholarly and activist efforts to document the "alcohol problem" in all its complexity. This work remains an invaluable primary source for historians, sociologists, and researchers interested in the history of social reform, public health policy, and the cultural evolution of temperance movements worldwide. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
