WHO AM I? WHAT CAN I LEARN FROM MY ANCESTORS?

Along my journey to find myself, an important healing discovery stands out; I learned my peg was born with a built-in personality determined by my ancestors before I was born. I found it very freeing to learn about my peg's natural talents and abilities, which had been programmed into my DNA. This knowledge transformed my perspective so much I would like to share it with you. Let's look at the basics of Rayid™, a system for understanding the genetics of personality developed by Denny Johnson, and how this relates to you, dear reader.

Energy Vibration

Importantly, I realized I actually reside as a strand of continuing energy. Ancestors in my family tree pass the energy of life down to me along this strand. Like a continuous strand, my energy field transfers information from one generation to the next. It animates my body and shines out of my eyes for others to see. Connected by a spider-web type of filament, I am part of a continuous stream of energy running within my family members. Amazingly, because we are all connected, when I change myself, not only does my energy field change but those of both past and future generations do as well.

My Peg's Genetic Inheritance

Until I learned of Denny Johnson's work with the iris, I hadn't thought much about the personality traits I inherited from my ancestors. I recognized my fair skin, dark blonde hair, and blue eyes had been passed down from my Scots and English parents and grandparents. Those inheritances were obvious and understandable. Further, I realized tendencies to act in certain ways also ran in my family. While I recognized these influences, I didn't realize a map existed to assist me in understanding and balancing these inherited patterns. In fact, my irises display that map!

Amazing What the Eye Reveals

Perhaps my fascination with eyes originated as a result of being partially blind. But the information I gained through Denny Johnson's book, What the Eye Reveals, and through attending his workshops certainly enhanced my self-understanding. I began to understand the dark spots, the petal-like openings, and straight, thickened strands in my iris were clues on a map, telling me of the genetic personality I inherited.

Surprisingly, my eye structure communicated a wealth of information on a sub-conscious level to others.. For example, my iris reveals certain tendencies to act and react. The fibers, colors, and spots in my iris actually predict my inherited behavior tendencies. Further, the markings types and locations disclose different, important facets of my personality and emotional legacy. Patterns and ways of relating to others had been incorporated into my being from thirty-two of my ancestors going back over four generations. They passed down to me whatever emotional energy blockages they did not resolve in their lives. However, my blind eye remains a veiled mystery since it is covered by cataracts.

The iris map can be compared to an inherited computer hardware directing the software of my personality. The basic iris structure does not change throughout life. Color spots called jewels may be formed in early childhood. Certain color shifts within the iris record changes in the brain's hemispheric dominance, reflecting introversion or extroversion. These modifications occur as I learn to balance my personality.

You and I are meant to be free-flowing energy beings, able to respond without restriction to the occurrences of our lives. Every time you suppress a response to an event, however, you create blockages in your energy flow. These stoppages trigger emotional responses. When these emotions repeat often enough, they soon turn them into habitual ways of responding. Soon a blockage in energy flow is created. In time, this habit goes underground below your awareness, continuing to occur unconsciously—just like driving a car became second nature after you had driven for a while.

Further, if I die without freeing the flow in these habitually energy clogged areas, the following generation inherits the emotional blockages displayed by a corresponding feature in their iris maps. My children's irises will show indications of these accumulated and still remaining blockages. It is then up to my children to try to solve the unbalanced energy patterns they inherit. My family unit provides opportunities to release patterns to achieve balance.

Iris Structures

In his study and development of Rayid™ (a system for understanding the genetics of personality through the study of eyes), Denny Johnson asked a friend to photograph people's eyes. Denny then posted the enlarged pictures around his apartment. Through a series of deep meditations on specific markings in the irises, he created eye maps. He compiled the maps to form an interpretive mapping system. Through the mapping system, Denny Johnson was able to recognize attitude and behavior traits (similar to the iris maps used in iridology). While iridology maps the physical traits, the Rayid™ system maps the emotional traits that form our personalities.

As Denny focused on a specific spot or an opening in a particular location in an eye, he would receive a vision indicating the type of inherited emotional experience that had created it. He states, "By understanding the structure of the iris, we can determine how a person learns and changes; how that person expresses himself through gestures and words, and how social and intimate relationships are formed" (What The Eye Reveals). Denny categorized several different features, which I'll mention here.

• Stream-type irises have many close filaments radiating from the iris center and indicate sensory, kinesthetic, and verbal elements. The energy output connected to this category is constrictive.

• Flower structures are openings in the irises like flower petals and relate to feeling, emotional, and social aspects. The energy output associated with this category is expansive.

• Jewels are color spots in the irises and indicate thinking, analytical, and verbal features. The energy output for this type is constrictive.

• Shakers combine all three previous types and are split, alternating between them, and extremists. Their energy output is expansive.

• Combination types will exhibit tendencies of several fiber types with corresponding balance challenges.

Openings like flower petals indicate a Flower iris structure.

Flowers learn best through hearing. They are visual and expressive with their hands. Flowers are feeling, emotional, spontaneous, and social. They often use expressions like "I feel" or "I see." They are drawn to Jewels for romantic relationships. (Dark band around periphery is a Ring of purpose. Further description follows.)

Long, tight, straight fibers indicate a mostly Stream iris structure.

Streams are intuitive and learn best through experiencing their lessons. They are physical, mental, intuitive, and sensitive. Receptive to everything, Streams are sensory, kinesthetic, verbal, sensitive, and mediators, although they are often in motion and seldom at rest. Stillness brings out their greatest potential. They often say, "That touches me" or "I can't stand that." They are attracted to jewel-flower combination types for relationship. (Evidence of concentric ridges called the Ring of Freedom, as well as a Ring of Expression indicating an extrovert has become introvert are shown as thickened fibers around the pupil, described later.

Color spots indicate a Jewel iris structure.

Jewels learn best through seeing. They are thinking, analytical, verbal, and independent. They often find self-acceptance and change difficult. They are frequently philosophers, critics, and planners. Jewels say, "I think" or "I hear." They are attracted to the visual expressions of a Flower for romantic relationships. (White Ring of Determination described below).

Shaker iris structure combines flowers, jewels, and streams.

Shakers learn best while in motion or being touched. They have a full range of feeling and half the range of hearing and seeing. By nature, they are extremists. They are split between the attributes of the Jewel and the Flower, and they alternate between extremes of being. They are zealots of new ideas. Devoted and loyal, they tend to be pioneer types, inventors, explorers, or motivators. They can reach great heights of originality and accomplishment or be in the depths of self-abuse and destruction. They are attracted to Streams for romantic relationships. Nature enhances their intuitive intake. (Some evidence of Ring of Freedom.)

Other Iris Indications

• Left- or right-brain dominance is shown by stronger color and more jewels or fiber differences and in physical characteristics as well. Color changes at the top of the iris can show if a person has switched dominance (for example, from left to right brain).

• Ring of Expression is indicated by thickened fibers noticeable in a circle away from the center of the iris with less fiber showing within the ring closest to the pupil. When a density of fiber fills in again around the pupil, it indicates a switch back to introversion. These are the inward or outward movements of emotional and physical vitality called introversion or extroversion.

• Ring of Determination is the white band around the iris perimeter. It shows hardening of arteries and hardening of attitude as well as a determined or decisive nature. It mostly occurs in people over forty. The traits exhibited within the complete structure will determine whether the person is in or out of balance.

• Ring of Purpose is a continuous dark band around the iris periphery caused by a lack of fiber. People with this ring constantly seek their special purpose in life. Their great strength will be poise and calmness. When unbalanced, they will exhibit certain tendencies based on their complete eye structure.

• Ring of Harmony is a series of white or yellow dots or clusters around the iris toward the outer edge that can indicate high ideals and expectations of others. It may also well indicate certain health tendencies that can lead to exhaustion.

• Ring of Freedom is a series of concentric ridges that circle around the iris suggesting an accomplishment oriented nature. The expression they designate can be in or out of balance.

• Hemispheric Dominance is indicated in pupil size of one eye compared to the other plus color above the iris. The right eye denotes left-brain dominance and the father. The left eye indicates right brain dominance and the mother.

Denny's Workshop

After I began to invest time in Denny's theory, I was presented with the opportunity to attend one of his workshops. Denny's assistant photographed all of the attendees' eyes. Denny then projected everyone's pictures in turn onto an overhead screen as he explained what he saw and identified our types of structures. He classified us into shaker, stream, flower, or jewel structured, right- or left-brain dominant, and introverted or extroverted. Denny also told us whether we learned best through seeing, hearing, feeling, or a combination of skills and described some of our strengths and weaknesses. A person trained in Rayid iris interpretation can easily perceive the inherited patterns.

As my eyes were projected, Denny referred to me as an extremist-type shaker, which explained so much about my natural abilities and tendencies. I sat in his workshop astounded by the information and its accuracy. I recognized I am naturally a zealot for new concepts and ideas. While I am devoted and loyal, I either achieve great success or great failures. Indeed later in a private session, Denny told me I could be a teacher, healer, or witch! any one or all three.

Discovering Relationship

As Denny commented and showed set after set of pictures on the screen, he walked up the stairs of the theatre touched a man and then walked over a row to tap a woman on the shoulder. He said, "You two are a relationship. Your structures complement each other. You are a flower extrovert structure, and you are a jewel introvert structure with related attraction repulsion patterns in each of your irises."

The two, who did not know each other, were surprised and peered more closely at each other. Their opposite iris patterns were two sides of a pattern of attraction. If they joined together as a couple, they would share the learning experience needed to balance the pattern.

At the workshop's conclusion, I purchased Denny's book and two magnifying mirrors to look at my own and other's eyes. One was a concave mirror magnifier that could be held up to the cheek to view your own eyes. The other was a battery operated lighted magnifying lens to look through at another's eyes. To confirm the truth of what I had heard, I determined to research and confirm Rayid by looking into my friends and family members' eyes.

I arranged for family eye photographs. It became apparent my mother had a large number of jewel spots in her eyes. Since a jewel's preferred mode of receiving information is visual, I understood why my mother did not seem to take in auditory information very well. She had to see a new concept to fully digest it. She was a voracious reader.

Taking the mirrors to my office, I checked the eyes of my staff and partners. Harold and I had just added a new partner, Shirley, to our management business. Soon after, Harold ambled into my office saying, "I can't stand how Shirley is always waving her arms about. It is so irritating. She is so emotional."

After Harold left, Shirley slid softly in and said, "I don't think Harold likes me."

However, after I examined their irises and they, taking the magnifiers, looked at their own and each other's eyes in turn, suddenly I exclaimed, "You are a relationship. Shirley is a flower, and Harold is a jewel!"

The two of them stared closely at each other. Within two weeks, they sheepishly admitted they were now seeing each other and soon after moved in together. As a couple, their qualities complemented each other, and they were both very happy together through their remaining lives. Further benefitting their relationship, Harold was a Nine personality on the Enneagram, and Shirley was a Seven. Her outgoing qualities complemented Harold's peaceful nature and helped to draw him out. He in turn provided a calming influence for her. (We'll focus more on the qualities of the Enneagram in the following chapters.)
