This is not a book about how to get your child into an elite school.

It is a book about finding your child again-and repairing the parent-child relationship.

It is not a manual. Not a formula. Not a guide to "success."

It is a companion's journal written by a Chinese-American woman who is both a mother and a teacher,

drawn from more than 20 years of real experience in parenting and education,

and offered to the countless parents still learning what it means to love.

Within these pages, you will encounter everyday conversations, small regrets, awkward conflicts, and gentle reconciliations.

You will not find "perfect parents," but you will learn how to draw closer-

closer to the child who sits in silence in the next room,

closer to the self you thought had drifted away,

and closer still to a quiet, steady conviction:

Strong relationships are the foundation of all happiness.
