Speeches and Reports of William A. Wallace in Congress, two volumes in varying 3/4 leather bindings, 1881, 28 speeches in 1875-1881 volume, 27 speeches in maroon cloth volume, 8.75 x 6.25 , 8vo. In fair condition. Front board of maroon cloth volume is detached. Moderate wear to each volume at extremities with scuffing to corners and edges. Cloth soiled and toned marbeled boars. Wallace has signed the maroon cloth volume at the front fly. Varying states of each pamphlet with foxing to some, toning to others. Chipping to some edges. Marbled volume has all edges marbled, binding shaken. Toning throughout each volume. Marginalia of Wallace in marbled volume. Please see photos. A unique piece of American political history! William Andrew Wallace s (1827-1896) own bound speeches together in two volumes. Wallace was an American lawyer and politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Democratic member of the United States Senate for Pennsylvania from 1875-1881. He also served as a member of the Pennsylvania State Senate for the 20th district from 1863 to 1886 including as speaker in 1871. While in the State Senate, Wallace s was member of a commission charged with drafting amendments to the 1874 Pennsylvania Constitution. He was an unsuccessful candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania twice, on ice in 1886 and again in 1890. Some speeches listed below: Speeches of Hon. William A.
