Paperback. "Social Work and the Training of Social Workers" provides an insightful analysis of the development and professionalization of the social work field during a transformative period in American history. This work explores the transition of social service from philanthropic volunteerism to a structured academic and professional discipline. Sydnor H. Walker examines the various methods and standards required to equip practitioners with the necessary skills to address complex societal issues, including poverty, health, and family welfare. The text delves into the curricula of schools of social work, the relationship between social science research and practical application, and the emerging role of the social worker in modern society. By assessing the goals of professional education and the challenges faced by practitioners, the book offers a comprehensive view of how social welfare systems were organized and improved.
