Hardcover. "Social Participation in a Rural New England Town" is a comprehensive sociological examination of community life and collective engagement in rural America during the early 20th century. Written by James Lowell Hypes, this study investigates the patterns and degrees of involvement in various social, civic, and religious organizations within a rural Connecticut township. By analyzing the factors that drive or hinder social participation, the work provides a rigorous look at the social fabric and organizational dynamics of a small-town environment. The text explores how geography, occupation, and family background influence the ways individuals interact within their communities. It highlights the vital role of schools, churches, and fraternal orders in fostering social cohesion. This work is an important historical document for those interested in rural sociology, American community development, and the history of social structures in New England. Through its detailed statistical analysis and qualitative observations, the book offers a foundational perspective on the evolving nature of social life and the importance of institutional involvement in maintaining community identity. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
