It is of interest to note the optimistic remarks of _lord Furness with. Reference to the future of the shipbuilding industry. After referring to the patriotism of the shipyard workers on the North East Coast, Lord Fumess added that with this encouraging Spirit animating our shipyard workers he for one was not pessimistic, and he felt sure that the shipbuilding industry of this country need not fear eclipse, even by our American cousins, who were putting such tremendous energy into the vital task of building ships in the present emergency. As to the future, the role of prophet was a thankless one, and in any case in existing circumstances the future was hard to forecast. He could, however, say with confidence that there was a large volume of work awaiting the shipbuilding industry, and for some years to come it was certain that all their facilities would be kept fully occupied.
That the shipbuilding industry will flourish for many years after the cessation of hostilities is almost self-evident when one considers the depletion of tonnage which the war has entailed. But two factors will have to be considered before any definite ideas can be entertained, first the extent to which Government control will be maintained after the war, and second, the effect of the world-wide extension of shipbuilding facilities which were almost non-existent in pro-war days.

Efectos del desistimiento
