He crossed the wall expecting the world to destroy him. Instead, the world made him an offer.
Free at last, the boy discovers what his gift was truly for... He can read three million strangers like a single open page and see the hidden machinery beneath cities, markets, and lives. And for the first time, the light beneath his skin burns warm.
Then a letter arrives, written in a language only three living people can read.
There's another boy who walked through that same wall, alone, has prepared exactly what the boy needs to hear. Every word he speaks is true, making him fatally dangerous.
As the boy is drawn deeper into a beautiful argument he cannot quite refute, the mathematician beside him sees what he's been craving his whole life: the perfect instrument to take him apart. And that the man in the glass tower needs only one thing the boy possesses.
To save what they are, she will have to walk away. And he will have to learn whether his light can survive without the person who lit it.
The Shimmer: The Vanguard is the spellbinding second book of buried power impossible choices. It asks when the trap is made from everything you ever wanted, how do you find the door?
