The First was bound before the Sleeper. Before the Silence. Before the bargain. Before the Silt Sea swallowed the old world.
Now it is waking.
In the Shattered Teeth, a door rises from a newborn volcano. In an Aethrian fortress, three thousand soldiers are found hollow — alive but empty, their minds stripped clean. Across the Silt Sea, a single word echoes through every sleeping mind.
Remember.
Zara Venn has faced ancient gods before. She freed the Silence with an apology. She carried the sword that ended the Sleeper. But the First is not sorrowful. It is not hungry. It has been imprisoned since before the founders built their first city, shattered into pieces and scattered across a world that has spent three thousand years trying to forget what was done to it.
It is angry. And it remembers everything.
Racing against the Aethrian Empire, a collapsing chain of ancient seals, and her own fear that some wounds cannot be healed — only ended — Zara must gather the fragments of the oldest god in the world and offer it the one thing the founders never could.
An apology that means it.
The Shattered Teeth is the second book in The Drowned Gods series — dark maritime fantasy for readers of N.K. Jemisin, Susanna Clarke, and R.F. Kuang.
