Sinopsis
Excerpt from A Series of Lectures Upon Locke's Essay
In such an inquiry there are necessarily considerable difficulties to be overcome. The difficulties arise from the circumstance, that the objects and instruments of investigation are the same, namely, the operations of the mind.\ The inquiry is into the nature of these, and the only instruments by which the inquiry can be conducted, are these very Operations. This difficulty Locke illustrates by the eye, which, though it is the means whereby we see other things, can never behold itself; thus the mind finds a similar difficulty in setting itselfbefore its own view, and making itself its own object.
