Neuware - 'Selections From the Latin Fathers, With Commentary and Notes' is a scholarly anthology designed to introduce readers to the foundational prose of the early Western Church. Edited by Peter E. Hebert, this volume gathers significant writings from the Latin Fathers-the influential theologians and bishops who shaped the intellectual and spiritual trajectory of Christianity from the second through the fifth centuries. The collection includes curated excerpts from key figures such as Tertullian, Minucius Felix, Saint Cyprian, Saint Ambrose, Saint Jerome, and Saint Augustine. Each selection is supported by comprehensive commentary and pedagogical notes that explain linguistic complexities, historical references, and theological themes. The work is particularly valuable for its focus on the transition from classical Latin to the specialized ecclesiastical Latin of the late Roman Empire. By providing direct access to primary texts in their original language, 'Selections From the Latin Fathers, With Commentary and Notes' offers an indispensable resource for students of Latin literature, church historians, and those interested in the evolution of Christian doctrine and Western thought. It serves as both a linguistic guide and a historical record of the formative years of the Christian tradition. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Therefore, you may see the original copyright references, library stamps (as most of these works have been housed in our most important libraries around the world), and other notations in the work. This work is in the public domain in the United States of America, and possibly other nations.
