Print on Demand. This book delves into the philosophical and spiritual landscape of the early Christian era, a time of intense intellectual and cultural exchange. The author explores the ideas of Plotinus, a prominent philosopher who sought to revive the wisdom of Plato and offer a solution to the pressing questions of his time. Plotinus's system, deeply influenced by Eastern thought, revolves around a threefold principle of Deity, spirit, and soul, and emphasizes the essential unity of the divine within both humanity and the universe. The author examines Plotinus's views on the Absolute, the nature of reality, and the concept of the World-Soul, drawing parallels with ancient Indian philosophies. This book also delves into Plotinus's practical ethics, which are based on a three-part division of human nature and offer a path towards self-realization and union with the divine. The author sheds light on the concepts of reminiscence and ecstasy, central to Plotinus's teachings, and explores their connection to the doctrines of metempsychosis and reincarnation. By illuminating the profound insights of Plotinus, this book offers a bridge between ancient wisdom and the enduring questions that continue to resonate in our own time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Enneads, however, is too great a risk without first testing the public interest by a new edition of the only partial translation of any size which we possess. A new edition of Taylor's Select Works of Plotinus is, therefore, presented to the public in the hope that it may pave the way to a complete translation of the works of the greatest of the Neoplatonists. That the signs of the times presage an ever-growing interest in such subjects, and that it is of great importance to learn what solution one of the most penetrating minds of antiquity had to offer of problems in religion and philosophy that are insistently pressing upon us to day, will be seen from the following considerations.
