Jonathan Tuteur's story begins before birth. One of his triplet siblings grew a vein from her placenta to Jon's to survive. Doctors said they had never seen anything like it.
For thirty years, that was little more than a fascinating story until Jon collapsed at home. Then he did it again, at work in Arlington, Virginia. And a third time, in the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa, Canada. A doctor explained to Jon he had epilepsy.
Jon's birth story is his doctors' best hypothesis as to why he has the disease, which affects more than sixty-five million people globally.
The next fifteen-plus years included more than five hundred seizures, forty nights in the hospital, and three brain surgeries involving fifteen holes drilled in his head.
Jon's inspirational odyssey with a life-changing disease, and his ability to ultimately see it as a gift, will invite you to reflect on your life and purpose.
Seizing Today is an account of an ordinary life interrupted by extraordinary change. Vulnerable and honest, it is a remarkable story of resilience, self-discovery, and the importance of human connection.
"Imagine being smart, successful, with a career that takes you to different parts of the world, and suddenly facing a diagnosis that makes you question everything about your future and yourself. Jon shares the denial, shock, fear and exploration of his condition as only he can-with honesty and vulnerability. He takes you on his journey, walking you through the steps he took to treat his body, and in the process transform his whole self. There are lessons here for everyone, regardless of what you confront in life." - Martin (Marty) Kaiser, Pulitzer Prize Winning Former Editor of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
"Jonathan so clearly depicts the frustrating and, at times, mind-numbing (pun intended), odyssey of epilepsy treatment. Long after I'd read the last line, what lingered with me most was the compassion, honesty, and hope buzzing through these pages. Seizing Today is a beautiful testament to the lengths we will go to fight for our lives and the expense it can take on an individual and their family." - Kelly Cervantes, USA Today Best Selling Author of Normal Broken: The Grief Companion for When It's Time to Heal But You're Not Sure You Want To
"It takes a lot of courage to write such a profoundly personal and vulnerable account of what it's like to live with a disease that is still so stigmatized and misunderstood. Seizing Today is equal parts inspirational, educational, and deeply moving. This is a beautiful read." - Dr. Jaqueline French, Director, The Epilepsy Study Consortium (TESC) NYU Langone Health
"As an epileptologist treating patients with epilepsy every day, I believe Seizing Today is a phenomenal resource for individuals experiencing seizures, their caretakers and really anyone experiencing disease in their life. Jon takes you on his epilepsy journey and addresses an extremely technical topic while making it easy to understand and relate to with vivid imagery and metaphors." - Dr. Kahlil Husari, Neurologist, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Assistant Professor of Neurology, Johns Hopkins University

Descripción de la tienda
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
