Plate margins show wear, some brown-spotting, small tears; a few text leaves show unrepaired tears (p. 131-132), with a few that have been actually stitched with thread (pp. 101-102); two early, pencilled women's names are present on the reverse of the plates at p. 256: Miss Taxell 23 William St Hernbay Nr Canterbury, and at p. 266: Mrs. Mayhew 38 Museum St Hernbay. Bound in full, old mottled calf, with red leather spine label, gilt-lettered: Dr SYNTAX'S Second TOUR, with gilt line bands across the spine. The outer hinges show some cracking, bumping and wear to the cover corners with the leather worn off, wear and rubbing to cover edges, cover surfaces. The endpapers, show tape repairs, wear.
