Her father's last letter ends halfway through a sentence. The man she is coming to love believes nothing is missing.
On her twenty-first birthday, Miss Rosamund Hensleigh will finally receive the letter her father sealed seven years before. She barely remembers him. Perhaps, in his own words, she will discover the man she lost.
There is only one unwelcome detail: the letter must be delivered by the banker trying to take her family's home.
Then Rosamund unfolds the page.
At the bottom, her father's words stop mid-sentence.
The banker insists there was only ever one sheet. His grandson believes him.
Lieutenant Edmund Crane has spent every clear night since Christmas beside Rosamund in her attic observatory, helping her track the comet of 1821. Wounded at Waterloo and weary of Bath's pity, he has found something precious in her company: a young woman more interested in his observations than his injuries.
Rosamund would rather measure a comet's tail than dance. She speaks plainly, trusts evidence, and has begun to trust Edmund.
Now the missing page stands between them.
With a micrometer, steady hands, and a mind that refuses to accept a convenient explanation, Rosamund begins examining what her father left behind. Edmund must weigh her findings against his faith in his grandfather-a choice that could threaten his family and the growing affection neither of them can ignore.
Somewhere beyond that unfinished sentence lies a truth worth concealing for seven years.
Rosamund intends to read it. But finding the rest of her father's words may cost her the future she has only just begun to want.
The Second Sheet is Book Eight of The Ladies of the Lion's Mouth series and a complete spring romance in its own right-a tender story of starlit companionship, divided loyalties, and a daughter searching for her father in his handwriting.
A clean and wholesome Regency romance with a gentle mystery, kisses only, no explicit content, no profanity, and a happy ending guaranteed.
