Page's book on Sappho and Alcaeus is a companion to 'Poetarum Lesbiorum Fragmenta', and it is advisable that those who read Page's book should have P.L.F. at their elbow for reference; thanks however, to the full concordances which Page provides in his first index, readers should be able to follow his arguments fairly well if they have access to Diehl and Bergk. Part i is devoted to Sappho (pp.3-146), and is divided into two sections. The first (3-109) deals with twelve poems, covering practically all the poems by Sappho of which it is possible to gain any coherent idea. Each of these poems is dealt with in the same way: first the text is set out (.), and then we have a translation, a commentary on points of detail, and a more general interpretation (.). These detailed studies are followed by a second section (110-146) on 'The contents and Character of Sappho's Poetry', in which Page discusses such matters as the number of books intro which the Alexandrian edition of Sappho's works was divided and the distribution of the poems among the books (.) the parts played by the gods (especially Aphrodite) and by heroes and heroines in Sappho's poetry (.). And though it remains true that de gustibus non disputandum, yet it must be said that few lovers of poetry are likely to be satisfied with Page's views of Sappho as a poet. (.) It is a relief to turn (.) to the calm and scholarly atmosphere of Part ii (147-317), in which he deals with the non-political poems of Alcaeus. His account of the historical background (both political and literary) of Alcaeus' works is certain to be recognized as a most important contribution to our knowledge of that hitherto all but unknown period (.). Our gratitude to Professor Page for his masterly treatment of Alcaeus may be allowed to compensate for our doubts about his views on Sappho.' (J.A. Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.

The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day ¿on which you acquire, or a third party other
than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the goods.

of your decision to withdraw from this contract by an unequivocal statement (e.g. a letter sent by post, fax
or e-mail). To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning
your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.

Effects of withdrawal

If you withdraw from this contract, we shall reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the
costs of delivery (with the exception of the supplementary costs resulting from your choice of a type of
delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us), without undue delay and in
any event not later than 14 days from the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw
from this contract. We will carry out such
reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have
expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement. We
may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of
having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.

You shall send back the goods or hand them over to us or to our German delivery address, i.e. Scrinium
Classical Antiquity, p/a R. Hüning GmbH, Hemdener Weg 147, 46399 Bocholt, Germany without undue
delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal
from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has
expired.

You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the book(s), unless there has been a serious default in the
description of the books.

You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is
necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.

Efectos del desistimiento

El plazo se cumple si devuelve la mercancía antes de que venza el periodo de 14 días. Tendrá que asumir los gastos directos de devolución de los bienes. Usted solo es responsable de la disminución del valor de los bienes como resultado de una manipulación distinta a la necesaria para establecer la naturaleza, las características y el funcionamiento de los bienes.

Excepciones al derecho de desistimiento

El derecho de desistimiento no se aplica a lo siguiente:

La entrega de periódicos, diarios o revistas, con la excepción de los contratos de suscripción; y
El suministro de contenido digital que no se proporcione en un soporte tangible (por ejemplo, en un CD o DVD) si, al hacer el pedido, aceptó que podíamos empezar a entregarlo y que no podría desistir una vez iniciada la entrega.

We ship our books either by Dutch Post NL or by German Deutsche Post / DHL, depending the costs and / or the shipping time, or the value of the books in question. We attempt to handle orders as rapidly as possible, usually within 48 (working day) hours. When ordering books that are not in stock, customers are kindly requested to allow for a slight increase in delivery time. In such cases up-to-date shipping information will be regularly supplied to the customer by email. In the case of increased delivery time the customer will be under no obligation to go through with the purchase; the book will only be ordered with the consent of the customer. Consent being given, the customer cannot cancel his/her order. New books are partly in stock, partly to be ordered from publishers. We are connected to a large number of publishers and distributors, established both in the Netherlands and abroad.
