High on the breezy fields above the sea sits a small croft where life is usually calm… usually.
Sandy, a hardworking Shetland pony, takes farming very seriously. Gates must latch properly. Fences must stay straight. Turnips must absolutely remain where they were planted.
Unfortunately, the Windy Croft has other ideas.
Between Billy the philosophical Highland cow next door, Andy the cheerful farmhand with a talent for unusual inventions, Jimmy the oyster catcher who loves a long conversation, and Nellie—Sandy’s wise and quietly practical wife—life rarely goes quite according to plan.
Across twelve gentle and humorous stories, the friends of the croft face:
• a gate that refuses to stay shut
• mysterious missing vegetables
• a cow who decides to redesign the pasture
• an extremely windy day
• a bird who attempts farming
• and a boundary dispute over two very important inches of grass
Set against a windswept countryside of stone walls, green fields and distant sea, Sandy of the Windy Croft is a warm collection of cosy tales about friendship, patience, and the small everyday adventures that make a place feel like home.
Perfect for readers aged 8–12, and for anyone who loves gentle countryside stories in the spirit of The Wind in the Willows and Paddington Bear.
Come and spend a little time at the Windy Croft—where the wind blows, the grass grows, and there’s always a story waiting by the gate.
